Christianity

Greetings, to all that will read this today. Yeterday I talked about Politics, today I am going to talk about Christianity.

I am a Christian. Have been since 1993. Best decision I have ever made in my 40 years on this planet was giving my life over to Jesus. At the time, how ever, I wasn't 40 but in my mid twenties. Before I became a Christian, I had a tough time of things. What I didnt know at the time, but do now, is that God is the ultimate healer. Anything that is bothering you, mentally or physchically, He can take and make it better.

Alot of people dont believe that. Non Christians, for the most part. Ever wondered why non Christian dont want to be saved? I am not going to tell you that I am a doctor licenced in the feild of psychology but I will give you my take on it. I feel that people in general like doing their own thing. non beleivers or believers as well. If you're not a Christian and somebody goes up to you and tells you what you're doing is wrong, if you say that to a non believer, you're probably going to get a smart answer and be told to mind your own business.

But, I think it is true, however. I think the majority of people that dont want to become Christian is that they enjoy doing what they do regardless if it's good or
bad

The same goes for Christians as well. Have you ever been talking to a friend of your's and lets say, they tell you this: "You were cool once. You went to partys, you had your share of women. But it all changed because you found Jesus. When are you going to get back the old you? the one people liked?"

If you're smart, you have realised, the old "you" was someone even you didnt want to be around. I think as Christians we like doing what we do. We like the fact that Jesus has changed our lives. We welcome what He is going to do next. I dont think there is any thing wrong with saying I am happy with what God is doing in my life. Why would I give that up and go back to my old ways. Easier said than done. The percentage of new believers in Christ takes a nose dive because people were not as sincire with what they thought they wanted. Old habits are hard to break for any one.

Movies have dipicted Christianity in many ways. Some of them, I will admit were not all that bad. They tried to the best of their ability to be accurate when it comes to the Gospels. Other times, they have not. I remember one of my earliest theather experiance's. Two of my cousins were saddled with baby sitting me. I must have been maybe four years old at the time, but i do remember them taking me to a movie with them. The film was "Jesus Christ Superstar" I remember only two things with that experiance. One, is that I slept through most of it. And two that I woke up just when the title song was being performed. Now, for any one who has ever seen the movie, that particular number was shot mostly at night with dancers and alot of very cool lighting. Its one thing watching it on dvd at your home, its another watching it on a huge theather screen.

Years later when I saw the film again, I noticed things about it, that didnt quite gel with what I had learned in church about Jesus. Hollywood film makers who were not Christians trying to give their perspective on Religion. Doesnt really work all that well.

I however would recommend watching the film Jesus Christ Superstar. Its all done entirely in song and it was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Directed by Norman Jewison. I bought a dvd copy of it some time last year or maybe two years ago. The features of the dvd are really great because the high light of it is audio commentary of Jewison and Ted Neeley who played Jesus.

Interesting side note: Neeley admits in the commentary that playing the role of Jesus was a life changing experiance for him. He doesnt say whether or not he is a believer, but he does admit since taking the role he see's things diffrently than what he once used to.

Politics

Good morning and happy wednesday to all of you who are reading this blog. Yesterday I sent an e-mail to a friend of mine asking him his opinion on what I should write about today. What he said made me think a little. Since this blog is called 'from paper to film' it should be about film's. But not every one has the excitement about the technical side of film making like myself and other people, so some of you readers might get bored quickly, so what I think I want to do is blend in a little both in my topics. If I have seen a film that say, is about or makes a reference to the days topic I'll add it.

Todays topic is Politics. Yes, yes, yes, the dreaded "P" word. But, I am not writing this to critise whover may be a President or a Prime minister of a country. What I will do is a make a couple of what I feel are interesting points about Politcs. For starters, in my opinion wheather you live in America or another country, your President/Prime minster does not have it easy. Being a leader of a country can't be. In a 200 plus year history of the United States of America there have only been 44 men that have held the office of president. I would not doubt for a second that if you were to ask any of the four living former presidents, none of them would say the job was an easy one. Nor do I think you would hear it from the current cammander in cheif.

Mel Brooks in his film "History of the world, part one" made an interesting point. Politics are a load of crap. Perhaps they are to some people. Other people if you watch the evening news or any news channell that seems to be all they talk about. I have seen and heard a couple of stories of fights breaking out because some one didn't agree with the other's choice of politics. Ridiculous, granted, but that's how it is.

Congress or any other faction of legislature brand in any other country is rather intriging as well. Don't get me wrong, I think the American Congress is doing a good job in passing important bills that is going to help this country. Some of the time. The laws that this country has, we wouldnt have then if some senator didnt say at some point 'this is bad, people shouldn't be doing it' i.e., a law was passed.

What I don't get about about Congress is that they seem to have a need to pass a bill for everything. I'll give two examples: a couple of years ago I was in a San Diego, California hotel and I was as they say 'channel surfing' to see what was good on television. As I was searching, I happened to come accross a cable channell called c-span. One senator was speaking to I guess the speaker of the house at that time about some one who had passed away that had a bit of noterity to him.

He listed off this guys accomplishments in his life time and than finished and another senator got up to speak about something, but before he did he made a comment about former president Gerald Ford celebrating a birthday and how there was a bill on the senate floor of weather or not to call and wish him a happy birthday. I am not kidding. I thought to my self, ' this guy isnt serious', but he was.

Another time, a few years later I was at home, once again watching c-span and they were having a debate of weather or not to call then prime minister Tony Blair and thank him for his support during the first few days and weeks of 911. I have a solution to both those scenarios. Pick up a phone and just call. Dont argue over it, do it. He was a former president. Doesnt matter if you shared his veiw or not.

Ok, I think I have said what I need to about Politics. For the moment. Who knows, I just may come back to it at another time.

If I can suggest a film to you readers that has to do about politics it would be a bio pic done about America's second president John Adams. It was filmed for HBO (Home Box Office) and starring Paul Giamatti. Great film, I highly recomend it.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

An Introduction: Part 2

To continue briefly with what I had orignally wrote a few hours ago, this blog will take a few twist and turns. I do not know eactly what topics, controversial or not that I want to discuss, but I can say that you may be surprised and find your self saying (possibly) "did he really have to go there" where ever 'there' is, I just might go. Depends how I feel. So, there you have it. I invite all who want to read and leave comments. Just like a person commented earlier, I too like to hear from other "dreamer's".

So, lets bring it on........

An Introduction

Hello, my name is David Meier and welcome to my first blog. I have been on other peoples blogs before, but this is the first one I have started. I know some of you might be asking, "why, are you doing a blog? You don't need one" Perhaps. But, I have all ways found writing to be enjoyable and a way to express ones feelings when they can not say it in words.

Why the title, "From Paper To Film" Its simple. Its the begining of just about every film. If you dont have a script, you dont have a movie. Now, I would never say that I am an accomplished writer, nor will I say I can out do any accademy award winning screen play. I can't. What I will say is this: I like movies. I allways have and I will continue to. It facinates me. Most people will sit down to watch a movie, 2 hours later get up and leave a cinema before the end credits start rolling. Not me. I stay for the whole thing. And another reason I chose ' the title ( thanks T.H.W.) is because I have a had a story in my head for the longest time. It is now a screenplay. What happens with it, remains to be seen, but I'll say it again, I had a story in my head and one day started writing. No harm in that what so ever.
